Boston, MA – May 06, 2022 – Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADN) (“Advent” or the “Company”), an innovation-driven leader in the fuel cell and hydrogen technology sectors, is pleased to announce that its Chairman and CEO, Dr. Vasilis Gregoriou, was invited to participate as a guest speaker in a session organized by the Hellenic Parliament’s Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology.

The session, titled “Innovative entrepreneurship and green technologies,” was chaired by Professor Christos Tarantilis, a Member of the Hellenic Parliament, and discussed how using technology to produce innovative, sustainable products and services can lead to significant reductions in CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and waste.

Among other things, Dr. Gregoriou provided an overview of Advent’s growth over the past 16 years, from its inception in a lab at Patras Science Park in 2006 to its listing on NASDAQ in 2021, as well as how – through offering sustainable products and actively participating in global energy projects of high strategic importance – Advent aims to play a leading role in the rapid decarbonization of the world.

At the same time, Dr. Gregoriou explained how the strategic acquisitions in 2021 helped Advent become a vertically-integrated leader in the fuel cell and hydrogen technology sectors, by developing an intellectual property portfolio with 150-plus patents issued, licensed, or pending worldwide for its fuel cell technology. Referring to the key advantages of Advent’s proprietary HT-PEM technology, Dr. Gregoriou highlighted its ability to operate under extreme conditions and operate off of multiple fuel sources (hydrogen, e-methanol, e-fuels, natural gas), thus eliminating the need for complex hydrogen infrastructures.

Acknowledging that the clean energy challenge is too complicated to be addressed by any single company, Dr. Gregoriou stressed the importance of collaboration by pointing out how Advent’s innovation efforts are further enhanced by the Company’s ongoing strategic partnerships with renowned companies and government agencies, including BASF, De Nora, and the United States Department of Energy. Dr. Gregoriou, also discussed important collaborations that Advent has recently entered into, such as a technology assessment with Hyundai, under which Advent and Hyundai will work together to assess applications of Advent’s proprietary technology in supplying Hyundai’s high-temperature fuel cell needs.

Furthermore, Dr. Gregoriou described how Greece’s favorable climate conditions make it an ideal destination for hydrogen production when compared with other European countries and explained why, following the recent geopolitical developments, the world must unlock the potential of hydrogen as a fuel, discussing how it will fill the energy gap by enhancing environmental protection and ensuring energy self-sufficiency. In addition, Dr. Gregoriou highlighted hydrogen’s future as a zero-carbon solution for transportation and expressed his confidence in methanol’s bright future as a marine fuel.

Dr. Gregoriou discussed Advent’s potential involvement as a technology provider in major clean energy infrastructure projects such as the White Dragon and Green HiPo projects, which, if approved, will use large-scale renewable electricity for the production of green hydrogen by electrolysis in Western Macedonia. In addition, he highlighted the need to enhance cooperation with the Greek Diaspora and create a specific “roadmap” that will pave Greece’s path to building a hydrogen economy, claiming that joint efforts can further accelerate the country’s technological development. Finally, Dr. Gregoriou spoke positively about the quality of education in Greece. Still, he pointed out that better infrastructure is needed in research centers and universities to unleash the full potential of young Greek scientists and professionals.
